Alessandro lurked, stalking through the party much like a wolf akin to the mask he wore. He watched, eyes sharp and narrowed as they flicked from costumed guest to guest, searching for the man they were all looking for. He felt hungry, ravenous really, but not for food or even blood -- at least, not the traditional kind.It felt like ages of standing around and accomplishing nothing. He was almost tempted to find Wilhelm and stay by his husband's side until they'd hunted down their prey, but the idea left his mind as soon as he realized he had lost the other man among the crowd. Where had he gone? Every so often he caught glimpses of Reed, staking out claim on the same spot it seemed, but their other companion? Where had he gone? The prince began to search. Clearing the dance floor took up the most of his effort, having to not-so-accidentally bump into nobles and royals in order to see their faces, catch their voices. It took a handful of songs too many before he had investigated everyone who appeared worthwhile to do so, and for a moment as he leaned against a wall to clear his head, almost considered giving up. The four of them, Maximiliano... Was it possible to move past what they had been through, what he had been through, if they simply left the situation to fester and rot on its own? Then Sandro heard him, faint yelling that could be no one else but Liam. And he ran.The door to the suite felt as though it opened much too easy for him, and in an all too quick moment he was through the doorway and standing before both his wedded and their target. The prince stood upright, collected himself as he brushed off his pants and straightened his suit jacket. Then he righted his mask, and met his husband's gaze with a rather pointed one of his own."You didn't call me."He turned his attention to Felix then, and gave a wide smile that was more venom than honey, handsome and vicious. The burning in his blood, the itching under his skin, it grazed and scratched at him like an animal. "Evening, Felix. I would say it's good to see you, but... well... I believe you know why we're here."

Iadyn was, at his core, an inquisitive young man. And though he always tried his best to be patient -- as were Eria's orders to him now more than ever -- there was no denying how anxious and restless he was to find their newest follower up and awake. The feeling stuck with him, like an ache unlike anything else he'd ever known. When was the last time they had someone else join their ranks? He couldn't recall, but would venture to guess at least a few years, maybe even more. He'd listened to accounts over a great number of trials, where potential members were put to judgement in order to determine their worth as acquisitions, but every time he had ended up disappointed. Not a single one so far had resulted in a victory for whoever stood on the opposing side, but the way everyone else in the Sanguine murmured about their most recent to be assessed left him with a hopeful feeling. Perhaps this would be the first win in a long line of losses. The man could only wish for such, after all. He understood why a deity like Reshoel was so selective with his followers; with the power strength and glory offered to a human, there was no telling what one would use either for. Eria in her sermons always spoke of choices and being wise about the ones you selected, and so Iadyn had attributed every failed trial as just that. All of their previous newcomers, somewhere in the midst of their assessments, had been given a choice and picked the wrong answer. Their god, ashamed and humiliated, had merely distributed the consequences. It made sense, and it was only what they deserved. Not this time, though. There was a spark that hadn't been present in the otherwise darkness of the following for quite some time, and even their head seemed to have noticed. Eria wanted Iadyn to sit in on the induction, as her chosen and favored vessel. As Reshoel's, from the day he'd been born. That had to mean this time, they all would witness nothing but success. It had to.So as soon as word had slipped out among the church that the competitor had come to, he took hold of the opportunity given to him by his god and let his plan sit on standby until night fell. As day came and went -- evening rolling in to cast purple and gray streaks through the red and black halls of their temple -- those who had been assigned to guard the steps leading down to the basement took their leave. And in the space between their departure and the next set's arrival, the man saw a divine choice being given to him.

Soshya's suit itched the front of his neck, but he didn't complain. Instead he tugged at it, and sat patient, as he waited in the chilly, mostly-empty front desk area of... wherever he was. This wasn't Rubel, he knew that much for certain. The sounds here were quiet, and next to none. There was the ticking of the wall clock, a monochrome scheme like the rest of the building was, aside from the neon-blue from the varying screens that lined the walls, or the bright glow from the receptionist across the way's computer and keyboard. There was her tapping, almost as dull as everything else here was. The monitors held nothing of interest on them, flashing papers and forms he didn't understand nor cared enough to. He tapped his fingers against the legs of his pants, kicked his feet to and fro.Anything, really, to keep from feeling like he was fading away, and becoming another part of this boring, foreign black-and-white box.The longer he waited, for what he didn't know, the more he grew restless. Soshya had stood, ready to go over and ask the receptionist just what he was doing here, who he was waiting for, when the doors at the end of the hallway past the front desk opened up. From within them stepped a man, suited much like the boy, and looking... almost identical to him. He paused for a brief moment as he registered what was happening, and stared. Soshya stared back, equally as confused, but... intrigued, he supposed. He pulled away from the front desk, left the receptionist to her work, folded his hands into his pockets, stood quiet and stared.Almost identical. Almost.Their eyes were not the same, the man's so dark-brown they almost seemed black. Hollow, maybe, if he had to pick one word for them. The boy's were deep-purple, bright. Opposites, like black and white. Almost identical. He had Rhia's eyes, and she... Soshya was eight now, no longer the child he'd been before. She was... dead. She'd died. He knew that.He had Rhia's eyes."You... must be Soshya." A harsh tone, from the stranger within this strange room with strange, strange things. One that made Soshya jump, not expecting it. He nodded, once, but did nothing else. The man gave a nod as well, more for himself it seemed, and moved. He knelt down in front of the boy, looking at him, into him. He blinked, feeling many emotions well up inside of him: curiosity, fear, sadness... A stranger, though one who looked like him, but was not him.Soshya held the feeling he knew who this man was, but... didn't dare voice his idea. No, for if he said it aloud... that would make this, all of it, real. He didn't want it to be real."Do you know who I am, Soshya?"Yes. Soshya knew."...My father. You're...""Oh, good. You're a clever boy, that's useful. Yes, Soshya... I'm your father. My name is Aleit. Did Rhi -- excuse me, your mother -- ever mention me?"
Not much. Soshya's mother had told him that his father had been someone not worth knowing, who held no concern or care for neither her nor their son. Soshya's mother had told him that his father was a cruel, vile man, but that he could seek him out, someday should he want to, when he was older. Soshya's mother had cautioned him against it, but she was always an honest women. He missed her more than he could word, but found no tears when he tried to cry for her.He supposed he was older now, then, since Aleit was here... and Rhia was not. He didn't want to be older, not like this. Not if this was what being older meant.Soshya shook his head. No, there had been no mention of him. Aleit, this strange man who was now his father, gave a dry laugh, another nod. Then, he stood, and... offered the boy his hand. The boy, not knowing what else to do besides stare, and stare more afterwards... took it. This was real, then. He didn't want it to be."I figured she wouldn't. Bitch..." Bitch. Soshya had heard that before, from Liecht. Oh, Liecht. What would happen now, to them? To the family they'd made together, between his parents, and Rhia? Themselves? What would happen to his life in Rubel?
"Are... are we going back to Rubel now?" He couldn't bring himself to call Aleit his father. It felt like cutting into an open wound, something painful and agonizing and enough to drive one mad."Rubel? No, no... Rubel is a shithole. We're going somewhere much better, and you're going to have the life you should have had before Rhia took you away from me... What a fucking blessing, that illness taking her out. Now it's just you and me, 'eh?"Soshya didn't want this to be real. He wanted to go back to being seven, with Rhia watching him kick in the sand, wet his toes by the beach. He wanted Liecht, and his mother and father watching over them as they played together. He wanted Rubel, and not... not whatever awaited him now. Not being eight, nor Aleit, nor... leaving, as he supposed they were.No. He didn't want any of this... but things, he supposed, were black and white.Sometimes, you ended up in the black.
